About Sanstha:
Dr. J. P. Naik
Our Inspiration - Padmabhushan Dr. J. P. Naik

Until the end of British era, Uttur, a small town of Ajara Taluka of Kolhapur Dist, facilitated only primary school (till 4th standard). It was very inconvenient for students to avail education. However, this rural area is native place of great humanist, freedom fighter, polymath, encyclopedic thinker and socialist educationist Dr. J.P. Naik. He was recognized by the UNESCO alongside Rabindranath Tagore and Mahatma Gandhi as three pioneering educationist of India.

With the dream to provide quality education to all the students in nearby villages, in year 1958, "Shri Anantrao Vishnu Ajgaonkar", an ambitious youth founded Antarbharati Shikshan Mandal. He was firmly supported by Hon. Late Pradhan Sir, Late Shri S. R. Patil, Late Dr. S. B. Deshmane, Late Shri V. K. Patil, Late Shri D. D. Kamble and Shri. Kiran Thakur.

Antarbharathi started the Uttur Vidyalaya and lots of students in several villages nearby could now take primary as well as secondary education. Still students in Uttur had to go to Ajara for secondary exams as the school building was very small. In order to change this situation new school building was constructed by Antarbharati. In year 1990-91, Antarbharati took a next step and higher secondary (HSC) college was started for Arts and Commerce streams. Now students in the area had option to learn in Uttur only.

To pay a tribute to a great humanist, freedom fighter, polymath, encyclopedic thinker and socialist Dr. J. P. Naik, Antarbharati started a graduation college “Dr. J. P. Naik Mahavidyalaya” in year 2007-08 in Uttur with Arts and Commerce streams. The aim of this college is to give quality education in remote rural area of Ajara, Bhudargad, Gadhinglaj and Kagal.
